Unofficial results of the BUT general election last night revealed that incumbent president Belinda Wilson has been reelected as president of the union for the third time.
Ms Wilson—who went head to head with the immediate former Secretary General of the union, Stephen McPhee — won a sizable portion of the vote after a long campaign in which she touted her role in negotiating deals for teachers, including a retirement fund for BUT members, salary increases and government covered medical insurance where the government pays 80% of premiums and teachers pay 20%.
On hearing the result, she said: “I feel relieved and I believe that the union could even do more because Mr McPhee had really been a hindrance to us.”
