PLP chairman Bradley Roberts said he would not have been able to “turn the other cheek” if FNM Deputy Leader Loretta Butler-Turner had struck him on the face – promising that the event could have turned into a “nasty scene”.
While not wanting to second guess why Dr Andre Rollins decided to follow Mrs Butler-Turner and apologise for his part in the incident, Mr Roberts said the PLP MP for Fort Charlotte should be commended for maintaining his composure.
“In the midst of all the high level of crime that we have, and the attitude of a minority of our young people, that is not a good message to send to them. That is a terrible message from a deputy leader of a party,” he said.
“When you think that Andre is a young man to her, what kind of message are you sending? She is in her 50s and that young man is in his early 30s.”
Mr Roberts said he would not go as far as saying Mrs Butler-Turner’s actions hurt Bahamian women’s efforts to get economic and sexual equality, but claimed the “stunt” did hurt her public image.
“I don’t know what was in her head, but I can say I have watched her demeanour in the House of Assembly, her ranting and raving, I thought I was bad! But she is like a bull in a China shop,” he said.
As for the slap that was delivered to Dr Rollins, Mr Roberts said he knows the Bible says that one must turn the other cheek, but he is not a “turn the other cheek kind of fella”.
“But I commend Dr Rollins for embracing that because it could have turned into a nasty scene,” he said.

...and this comes as a surprise to people? My take on his comments is that he is an abusive and oppressive individual when it comes to a woman standing her ground and defending herself..."it could have turned into a nasty scen..." So what, it means he would attack and harm her in retaliation? Such a big bad Brad, your pride and ego just shine on through. Rollins did not react as he knew he was wrong and deserving of the slap. For his own safety and the threat of legal charges, he took his punishment (the slap) and walked away from it.

This is why she should have pressed charges against him. She was violated and she defended herself.

Bradley Roberts from your comments we all can tell you are a ole man woman beater.“nasty scene”. meaning you would have punch and slap her like a man.I'm really sorry for your family ,they must hate to be related to you because I would if I were them. You are a mean and evil person just by looking at you always angry like you have a chip on your shoulder.“When you think that Andre is a young man to her, what kind of message are you sending? She is in her 50s and that young man is in his early 30s.”That's why he should have kept his hands to himself he showed no respect to her.She should have slapped him into next week.Since you want to talk about age difference real man would have never put his arms around her without her permission .So why don't you go suck on a lemon .Dead head ole man.

Nobody is surprised by Bradley Roberts' responce ,because we all know what he purportedly had done to a former lady friend when he had problems letting go when she no longer wanted him.So it would not have been any problem to hit a woman ,even when he was the instigator. As for demeanor in the House of Assembly,we all remember Algernon Allen pleading with the Speaker to calm Bradley Roberts down as he was "frightening the little darlings" .I must also add that if Dr. Rollins had acted in such a condescending manner with either Mr. ingraham or the late Sir Lynden Pindling,he would have gotten the same responce,in the least.

Ahah! I was told the same yesterday, never in a million years would he have tried it with Hubert Ingraham. That thought makes him appear an even smaller man in my eyes.

Bradley Roberts is a jerk. Thank God it was not him and if it were and he did the same thing as Dr. Rollins he too would have deserved to be slapped. The way he references the age difference is an ignorant statement. All young men should respect their elders and when it comes to woman, should not put his hands where they aren't wanted.

Apparently they both need to go back to 1st grade and sit in the time out corner. Shame. All that college, and you both need to study basic decorum.

Its males like Mr Roberts who give real men a bad name. How the hell you want to beat a woman down for reacting after she clearly told you to remove your arm from off her. Mrs Butler Turner didn't even need to give an apology. Dr. Rollins and her was having a discussion in the House, whereas the House went on break so should have that discussion. There is a time and place for everything but one good thing Mrs Turner, when you play with puppy, puppy lick ya mouth. Funny how no one never finish to say what happen to the puppy next but I'm sure Dr. Rollins could share his view lol.

Come on now...how did you all expect Bradley Roberts to respond? lolol I was laughing so hard when I was reading this story. I believe every word that he said... there would have been a brawl that day...lololol I don't think his comments have anything to do with how he feels about women. He was just being true to himself. He is not soft. His nickname is Big Bad Brad. He has a reputation to protect. lololol That was not going down like that whether he was in the wrong or right.
