RIGHT on the heels of its National Road Race Championship, the New Providence Cycling Association hosted its second biathlon event for the season with Anthony ‘Biggie’ Colebrooke picking up the victory.

Colebrooke, the runner-up behind Jay Major at the Road Race Championship a week ago, held off some new faces in the event that was held on Saturday morning.

“The weather was hot at the start during the run portion before the rain came down and, at the end during the second bike segment, the sun came out again. It actually favoured the athletes as it cooled them down. The biathlon was different from the first as the first one saw all of the participants starting off slowly working into a slow pace. This one saw from the start the quick start as Justin Minns woke up the field with a sprint out at the start, which caused only the competitive cyclists to catch up with him (Deangelo Sturrup, Spencer Delevaux and Colebrooke) as they rode together.

“On the run, Deleveaux opened the gap on Sturrup and Colebrooke. Coming in off the run with about 1 minute plus, Colebrooke was able to close the gap to catch and pass Deleveaux for the victory,” said a press release.

In the other level of the cyclist, bike and run, all of the cyclists enjoyed the race and indicated that they will be back, looking forward to the next one as well as the upcoming bicycle race, the Independence National Cycling Championship on July 7.

Registration has already started at the sponsor’s office at Cycles Unlimited Bicycle Store, Mackey Street and Dorsette Bicycle Store on

8th Street, the Grove, during the week and on Saturday.
