TWO of the three defending champions suffered a defeat on Saturday as the Baptist Sports Council began its 2013 Basketball Classic at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

In the 15-and-under division, Faith United held off the defending champions Macedonia Baptist 32-30 as both Travis Barnett and Gary Williams had seven and Levonne Moxey and Kendrick Armbrister had six apiece. Delano Jolly had a game high 11 and Shamar Burrows added nine in the loss.

In a rematch of the 19-and-under finals from last year, Macedonia got revenge with a 50-42 decision over defending champions Latter-Day Eagles. Van Hutchinson had a game high 16 and Levigi Forbes had eight in the win. J Williams had 14 in the loss.

And in the men’s game, defending champions Macedonia routed Golden Gates 47-35 as Van Hutchinson canned a game high 20 points and Abel Joseph added eight. Raynard Minus led the losers with 10 points.

Also, Faith United men knocked off St Mark’s 53-48 as Keithlyn Gray scored a game high 34 points and Stephano Miller added 12. Allan Curry had 18 in the loss.

BIBA men surprised Golden Gates 45-41 behind Tommy Carroll’s 17. Kyheil Roberts had 12 in a losing effort.

St John’s men beat St Mark’s 42-38 and St John’s 19-and-under pounded Mt Nebo 41-26, but no individual stats were available for both games.

Golden Gates’ 19-and-under knocked off Latter-Day’s B team 40-31 as Neil Sands had 10 points. Vincent Bromwell had eight in the loss.

Macedonia’s 19-and-under prevailed with a 31-26 decision over Mt Nebo as Delano Knowles canned 14 points. Dennis Brown had a game high 17 in the loss.

And Latter-Day’s 15-and-under clobbered Mt Nebo 29-10 as Vincent Bromwell had nine points. Dennis Johnson had eight in the loss.

A series of games are on tap for this Saturday before the league takes a break for the Easter holiday.
