Attempted hijack of Lyford Cay resident

A LYFORD Cay resident became the target of an “attempted hijack” moments after leaving the residential community, The Tribune has learned.

According to a security alert sent to Lyford Cay homeowners, the unidentified victim was cut off while driving and approached by a gun-wielding attacker. Then, after making his escape, his car was chased as he sped back home.

The incident was said to have occurred early Sunday morning, just before 3am. The victim was driving east on JFK Drive and had just passed the Airport Industrial Park.

“He observed a vehicle behind him with its headlights on full, he slowed down to allow the vehicle to pass. . . a Silver Kia Sportage SUV, possibly 2011 or 2012, pulled up alongside him and cut in front. His instinct was to reverse his vehicle.

“One male wearing a green shirt was running towards him and pointing a handgun in his direction, he turned his vehicle around and headed back towards Lyford Cay as fast as he could.”

The report said the Sportage continued to pursue the victim, but while passing Solomon’s Fresh Market, three cars approached from the other direction, at which point the SUV slowed down.

“Upon his arrival to the Cay he noticed that he was no longer being chased. Lyford Cay Security escorted him to Lyford Cay Police Station to give a statement.”

The warning asked Lyford Cay residents to “exercise caution and be attentive to your surroundings at all times and, report any suspicious activities to Lyford Cay Security immediately.”

Following the incident, the neighbouring gated community of Old Fort Bay issued a series of recommendations to its residents.

“Should you suspect you are being followed do not panic,” the advisory said. “Do not show fear by slowing down or speeding up.

“Proceed directly to the nearest police station, or a security check point of a gated community such as Old Fort Bay or Lyford Cay.

“Use your cell phone to alert the police or the security check point of choice.

“Be sure to give your location and direction of travel and description of your vehicle and if possible the description of the vehicle you suspect is following you.

Lives and safety of Lyford Cay residents are no more important than over the hill residents, but this really is unacceptable.

Government and Commissioner Greenslade have to get control of these "new criminals" that are destroying the country.

Start with sustained roadblocks & search in strategic locations, illegal immigrant apprehension and deportation and the U.S., Bahamian criminal deportees.

None of this is neurosurgery or hard to figure out for God’s sake!

It's ok SP, the Bahamian people can be at ease, KB and BJN are now carrying guns. If you run into trouble, flash the Bat signal and they wil be right there to protect you.
