A BAHAMAS-based cloud computing company has seen increased interest in its services from various sectors, telling Tribune Business that most firms would use the type of solutions it offered within two to three years.
Stelios Xeroudakis, director of Cloud Carib, a Citrix-certified Solution Advisor in the Bahamas, said the Microsoft BizSpark start-up had been generating significant interest from firms in the financial services industry, shipping and the Government.
“Those are the main sectors. There is a fair amount of businesses that have shown interest,” said Mr Xeroudakis.
Cloud Carib’s core focus is on infrastructure and application virtualisation. The company offers personal service to all clients and customers, and has been awarded Gold ProPartner status by Veeam Software, an Elite VMware Technology Alliance partner. It has also been named certified Citrix Silver Solution partner in the Bahamas.
Mr Xeroudakis said Cloud Carib’s virtual IT solutions could significantly increase productivity, and generate thousands of dollars in cost savings for companies.
“We offer an entire range of services for cloud computing, ranging from installations of cloud-enabling technologies, such as VMware and Citrix solutions, and also the recent additions of Netup and Flexpod,” Mr Xeroudakis said.
“In addition to that we offer the hosted cloud solutions, which customers can access through our own equipment at the Cable Bahamas data centre, and is all running on VMware technology.”
He added: “Cloud computing simplifies things. The IT staff can be more efficient by using cloud technologies, and there are personal benefits in saving electricity.
“It’s just starting now, but the majority of business would go to cloud computing in the next two or three years. It’s a global
phenomena. It’s widely accepted as the way things are going.”

"Cloud" it's a term used to describe technology that allows you to save costs by sharing computer hardware with a large group of subscribers outside your organization. Another company ( I.e the company in the article) has the headache of buying and maintaining the hardware/applications , you just pay a fee to access the systems and to store your data. (It also has another connotation in the ability to access data from any device without a physical transfer... Cuz ...well the data is up in the cloud)

Dunno...I don't know if its that popular, my company still has its own physical mail server. Technically we could outsource that service to this company and not have to worry about software upgrades, patches etc. I'm assuming there are other examples like this in the country. Some companies are probably not even using virtualization. It's definitely coming, dunno if we're all there.

Many companies have started using cloud computing for some time now. In this century, this could be considered one of the biggest discoveries. Actually, this helped some small companies become big on the market. My company is one of these; before we launched out business on the market we had only 2 essential targets: getting some quality electronic products (which we got from Coaxicom ) and getting a cloud computing account at a serious provider. These two things were, in our opinion, the essentials in our success!
