TWENTY-five charges were brought against a Bahamas Customs officer in Magistrates Court when charges accused him of stealing more than $70,000 of Custom’s duties from the government within a year.

Parral Curry, 26, of Cedar Way replied “not guilty” 25 times to each of the “falsification of accounts” charges read to him by Magistrate Saboula Swain of Court no. 11.

It is claimed the officer, with intent to steal, made 25 false entries in the Customs Automated System on the duties various goods brought into the country where there was up to $73,335.92 in monies missing.

The first incident is alleged to have occurred December 23, 2010 and the last on December 6, 2011.

Curry was granted $35,000 bail with a suretor provided he surrendered his travel documents to the court.

His next court appearance is scheduled for November 12 at 10am before Magistrate Andrew Forbes of Court no. 8 when a trial date will be set.

The officer has retained lawyer Ian Cargill to defend him.
