THE Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) is blaming the disruption of its services in Andros on pigeon hunters who, they said, "shot through the fibre optic cable that carries all of the communication capabilities to settlements at the end of South Andros, primarily Mars Bay and a neighbouring settlement."
The company added in a press statement that "parts of North Andros also suffered BTC outages a few weeks ago also due to gun shooting pigeon hunters."

BTC has never had consistent service since Cable and Wireless took control. They always blaming the cell service disruptions and dropped calls on upgrades and now they blaming other phone outages on pigeon hunters. Maybe its time for Cable and Wireless to pack their bags and carry their upgrades back where they come from. AND TAKE RACHET JAW MARLON WITH THEM!

As a hunter myself, I have seen a number of my fellow enthusiasts shooting birds off electric and phone wires ... this is just dumb as it is very likely that damage wil be done to the wires ... hunter education should be given as a mandatory part of the requirement for owning a gun.

So are the pigeon shooters in Andros what caused the phone outages island wide in Abaco yesterday? All they have is excuses. The only thing C&W has been good at doing is increasing their profits. Phone service is not better. Cell phone service is no better. Prices are not lower. Internet service is not better and the customer service is as bad or worse than it has even been. If they do many more upgrades we will have to use tin cans and fishing line to communicate.

It is not cheaper if you cell phones voice, texts, and 4g do not work 30% of the time. I know so many people who have even cancelled their cellular service because it is so poor. You make a voice call it drops so they charge you for the min. Then you have to call again. So they got 2 min on you then. Text messages received 4 days after they are sent. If you live on the family islands all you can do is call Nassau. The local BTC office cant help you.

Why do you assume that I desire for the government to take back BTC? I just expected things to improve under a private company and it has not. All they care about is selling cell phones. I am just calling a spade a spade. Their service sucks! It also sucked before it was privatized but, just a tiddle bit less.

Most people do not go with a post paid plan because they cannot manage their phone bill that way. On the prepaid plan, one can put $3.00 top up (from which $2.85 goes directly back to BTC) on their phone. If someone calls them from a land line and wants to run a long conversation, the conversation ends when the minutes run out, and the cell phone subscriber does not run up an enormous bill that he/she may not be able to pay. Also they will not have to put more 'minutes' on their phone until *they* find it necessary. With post paid they have to wait until the end of the month to find out they went over their limits.

you can check the minutes used at any time from your phone .Many people i know waste time on ridiculous things like "what fall" and begging leg . I know what numbers on my phone mean money and w/ the others text or talk under a minute b/c i control the buttons on the phone not the other way round .
