Man in custody after high-speed police chase

A YELLOW Elder man is in custody after police arrested him following an armed robbery and high speed chase yesterday.

According to reports, shortly before 1am, a man was driving in Stapleton Gardens when several men armed with handguns approached him, robbed him of his black 2010 Kia, and drove off.

The police were immediately notified and responding officers spotted the stolen vehicle in Yellow Elder Gardens a short time later.
The occupants of the vehicle sped off when they saw the police.

The officers chased the men and the vehicle eventually crashed into bushes in the Yellow Elder area. The suspects ran from the car.

Officers arrested a 26-year-old man, but the other men got away.

Police are asking anyone with information concerning this incident to call police on 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit on 502-9991, or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 328-TIPS.

In other crime news, three men are in police custody in connection with the discovery of a quantity of drugs on Monday.

According to reports, shortly before 5pm, Mobile Division officers were on patrol in the Walnut Street area of Pinewood Gardens, where they observed the three men acting suspiciously.


The officers conducted a search in the area and found the drugs.

The men were taken into custody for questioning.

Police also detained three teenage boys after discovering an illegal firearm.


According to reports, at around 3.15pm yesterday, officers from the South Central Division were on patrol in the Dennis Court area, when they observed the three young men acting suspiciously.

The suspects ran when they saw the officers and one dropped a backpack.

The backpack was examined and found to contain a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition.

After a short foot chase, the officers detained the three boys for questioning.
