THE mother of a special needs child pleaded not guilty to assaulting his teacher when arraigned in Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Antoinette Smith appeared before Magistrate Guilimina Archer facing a charge of assault, allegedly committed on Tuesday, October 1.
The assault reportedly took place at Anatol Rodgers High School after school hours during a confrontation that quickly escalated into what the teacher claimed was an assault.
Police responded and the parent was taken in custody to the Carmichael Road Police Station.
However, the parent was later released pending the completion of an investigation after she claimed that the teacher had assaulted her.
Smith, who was on $1,000 police bail before the arraignment, had her bail extended, but increased to $3,000.
The magistrate scheduled trial for December 11. Smith is defended by lawyer Julika Thompson.
