Bacon files defamation suit against Jones Communications

MEDIA Boss Wendall Jones and his company Jones Communications Limited are expected to be brought before the courts once again, this time to answer a defamation suit filed by Lyford Cay billionaire Louis Bacon.

In court documents obtained by The Tribune, Bacon alleges that earlier this year in interviews with millionaire Designer Peter Nygard, Jones Communications broadcast several defamatory statements about him, which were included in comments made by Mr Nygard and supplementary video clips.

Mr Bacon alleges that assertions were made about him regarding his ancestral ties to a certain racist terrorist organization and his alleged lack of regard for members of other races in general.

Mr Bacon’s complaint also alleges that in an interview with radio personality Philippa “Lady” Russell in August, these assertions were repeated.

With regard to these claims Mr Bacon is seeking “general and aggravated damages” saying that Mr Jones allowed his company to publish statements without a belief in their truth and must have suspected the statements were untrue but deliberately avoided taking obvious steps which, if taken, would have turned “suspicion into certainty of their falsity”.

Mr Bacon’s complaint says that he fears that unless Mr Jones and Jones Communications are not restrained by the court they will “further publish or cause or permit to be published the words complained of or any similar words defamatory of the Plaintiff.”
