THE MCCARTNEY family is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting death of businessman Kurt McCartney.
Fighting back tears, Kurt’s brother, DNA Leader Branville McCartney said the reward is intended to assist the police with bringing the culprit or culprits to justice.
“On behalf of the McCartney family, we wish to offer a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Kurt McCartney. Persons can call Crime Stoppers at 328-Tips or 328-8477, in the family islands you can call at 300-8476. We as a family wish to thank the police for all they have been doing in this matter thus far, and on behalf of the family we would like to thank all persons who expressed their sympathy and condolences during this time,” he said.
He said that this was “being done after discussing the situation with the police. This isn’t being done on our own accord, we wanted to take the directions from the police and so they are aware of this reward. We know that they are doing a fine job thus far in this investigation, but we feel that someone knows and we will pay you for that information, $50,000 for the arrest and conviction so this is to hopefully assist the police in bringing a conclusion to this matter.”
Kurt McCartney was shot on Thursday in Gambier Village. According to family members, he received a phone call earlier that night from a young woman who allegedly threatened to kill him. He was said to have informed a close friend that he was going to deal with it and left to visit the girl. Police, however, say they have no evidence suggesting he received death threats before he was killed.
Superintendent of Police Stephen Dean confirmed that four persons are being questioned, including two teen girls, but they are still concerned that “someone with valuable information is holding out.”
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday.

This is very sad. Even more sad is we see distraught families of slain victims almost daily in the news. Too many murders. What could have warranted this killing? Even failed relationships are not worth taking a person's life. Come on people....these things will be the downfall of this nation.

What does it really mean to offer $50,000 in rewards though?

May lose your brother and your money too because there are so many loop holes in our system. I feel pain especially at the fact he was shot in the head. I would hate for only the shooter to get sentenced to death clearly more than one person is involved.
