TWO men who opened fire on police attempting to stop their car were taken into custody yesterday after a high-speed chase.
At around 1am near Lily of the Valley Corner, police on routine patrol attempted to stop three men in a 2005 Silver Kia Sorento because of suspicious behaviour.
As the officers approached the car, the front seat passenger pointed a gun at them and opened fire.
As the officers returned fire, the Kia sped off, sparking a high-speed chase which ended in Pinedale when the car slammed into a wall.
An 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody. Police found a handgun and ammunition in the vehicle.
Police set up a perimeter and soon arrested a 33-year-old man in Ida Street who had been shot in the leg.
That suspect was taken to hospital, treated and later released into police custody.
The third suspect is still at large.
Anyone with information that could help police with their investigation is asked to call 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit on 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 328-TIPS.

Would somebody PLEASE hurry up and RELEASE these men into freedom !!!!!!!
We need to make more room in the prisons for petty marijuana smokers. Just ask the churches - they agree smoking is very naughty and must be punished.
