Work begins on Genting resort

Site preparation and preliminary work is underway for the construction of Resorts World Bimini’s new marina hotel, the developer has announced. It has also mobilised personnel and equipment to support works for its new cruise pier.

“This is a significant moment in the further advancement and development of Bimini’s tourism infrastructure. It will pave the way for ensuring that Bimini truly is the gateway to the Bahamas,” said Obie Wilchcombe, minister of tourism.

Resorts World said it would work closely with the Ministry of Environment, the Bahamas Environment, Science and Technology (BEST) Commission and other government agencies to ensure best practices are followed, and that there is minimal impact on the surrounding environment.

“The construction of a new pier means our guests will have more direct access to the island and additional time to explore on shore,” says Resorts World (Bimini) president, Dana Leibovitz.

“That translates into more tourist spending, more jobs for Biminites, and more appreciation for Bimini’s natural habitat, which is among the island’s chief assets.

“The natural beauty and the fauna of Bimini is what attracted us and many visitors to these shores, and we will continue to work in a partnership spirit with the people and government of the Bahamas to assist in enhancing and improving the overall standard of living and infrastructure development on the island.

“We are keenly aware of challenges that the public sector faces in maintaining infrastructure and public services in so many islands, and we are glad that our investment will have a positive impact in these areas, both socially and economically.”

Resorts World Bimini is operated by the Genting Group.

Lies. A casino license to operate a casino 40 miles from Miami is why Resort World is in the Bahamas. I'd like to know how they got permission to reclaim land for this hotel in such a short time. I've never heard of any hotel getting permission to reclaim land so quickly.. Seems BEST practices are not being adhered to.....

I’ve been to the Resorts World’s Casino. It’s beautiful and I had a good time. I love the stunning beauty of the beaches and waters. I could see there was room for expansion. I think the developers are able to safeguard the waters and beaches while expanding their resort. The Resort even notes that it was the natural beauty that attracted them to Bimini. Besides, the new development will bring in jobs and revenue to Bimini.

I've been to the Bimini resort several times over the last 10 years and I've seen the development from the original Bimini Bay resort, now transformed into the Resort World Miami brand, and I have never seen any degradation of the environment. In fact, I've seen many improvements on the island, including the economy, water, electricity, infrastructure and ecological protection that is being implemented due to the investments of the resorts. MOst of the Biminites I've spoken to are very happy to have the resort.
