A 57-year-old tourist is in police custody after he was arrested Tuesday afternoon for threats of death, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
According to reports, shortly before 4pm, a woman friend of the suspect reported to police that he had threatened to shoot her while onboard a sailboat moored off Nassau Harbour.
Police arrested the suspect, who is from Massachusetts, shortly after the report was made.
The officers, assisted by officers from the Customs Department and the Defence Force, conducted a search of the suspect’s 40ft sailboat and found a quantity of marijuana and a handgun with 145 rounds of ammunition.
Investigations continue.
Police also arrested a 25-year-old man for possession of dangerous drugs on Tuesday.
According to reports, shortly after 8pm, DEU officers, acting on intelligence, went to St Vincent Road where they observed the suspect standing outside a home acting suspiciously.
The officers conducted a search of the man and found a quantity of dangerous drugs in his possession.
The suspect was taken into custody and is expected to appear in court later today to be formally charged.
Police are also requesting the public’s help in solving two armed robberies on Tuesday.
In the first incident, shortly after 10:30am, two men armed with a handgun robbed a food store on Bahama Avenue and East Street of an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing on foot.
In the second incident, shortly after 2pm, a man armed with a handgun robbed a clothing store on Market Street of a small amount of cash before fleeing on foot.
Investigations into both matters are continuing.
