DEBRIS fell from the ceiling inside the Post Office, workers discovered yesterday when they arrived at work – forcing the suspension of postal services at the building today.
Last night, the Ministry of Transport and Aviation issued a statement confirming that workers had found fallen debris in one of the offices in the building.
The statement said: “As a result of this latest incident, the Ministry has determined to immediately put in place interim measures for the relocation of postal staff and protocols for the collection and distribution of mails while arrangements for finalising a permanent location is completed.
“That process of relocation to permanent premises is in train and premises have been identified with the collaboration of the Ministry of Public Service which has responsibility for accommodations and the Ministry of Finance and the terms of the acquisition of the new location are now being settled.”
The ministry said that postal services would be suspended today but are subject to further notification. Counter services are available at all sub post offices at Shirley Street, Elizabeth Estates, Cable Beach, Carmichael Road, South Beach, Fox Hill and Grant’s Town.

So, we're considering building a lavish residence for one man while public buildings where hundreds work are falling apart?

...and if I am reading it correctly they are 'finalizing' arrangements for the permanent relocation...so wait...the main Post Office is going to be relocated? I smell a rat! Any bets that the new location is a building owned by a well placed PLP stalwart? Going to be some sweet rent money for that!!

Not everyone has e-mail. Don't forget the parcels, packets and packages also go through the post-office. Also, the use of air mail is not 'dead'. I am actually in an on-line international postcard exchange group that has thousands of members. The click of the computer mouse provides you with someone's address and the you mail them a postcard. It actually combines snail-mail and technology.
