A day for equality

EDITOR, The Tribune.

THE majority rule holiday needs to be changed to Equality Day or Equal Rights Day – Majority Rule Day divides Bahamians and is a contradiction to One Bahamas that is celebrated every year which brings all Bahamians together.

People who judge people by the colour of their skin are very small minded people. There are far more important considerations like principles, morals, state of mind and heart which are the things that define a person.

It is time for the leadership of the PLP to mature and get past this race issue. People are tired of it and are tired of the pettiness of it. We are all Bahamian, regardless of our skin colour. Most Bahamians work, go to church or socialise with both black and white. So PLP get past it!

It is time for them to stop all of this racial talk and the programmes that divide people and focus on uniting all Bahamians. It is time for us to celebrate our good times and all of the good about our islands and to work together to solve our problems that are affecting us all.

All Bahamians deserve equal rights! Full stop! Both black and white and every shade in between. I propose that the name of the day be changed to unite Bahamians and be called Equality Day or Equal Rights Day. It should not exclude anyone and all should be included and be proud to be Bahamian.

Well said; I am also fed up with all the racial talk, it is so divisive.
