POLICE have a 28-year-old man in custody in connection with the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl at a hotel over the weekend.

According to reports, the teenager was at a function at a West Bay Street hotel on Saturday around 4am with a female friend when she met the suspect, who was staying at the hotel.

The girl told police the man raped her in his room.

What is she doing in that man's room at 4am in the morning, and why is she out until 4am, she should of been home since 10pm!

How dumb are some of these females, your 17 (not of legal age) out with a friend who might also be underage at an event in a hotel at 4 in the morning and some guy gets you to come to his room and you didn't consider that might happen? She needs to return to jr. high and get another chance at the educational system. Her ability for sound reasoning and comprehension skills is underdeveloped.

Sadly...the educamation system probably set her up for that failure in her morals and judgement.

Sadly, the reality is, that our homes set up many of our students for failure, even long before they reach the system (education).

A few weeks ago the young lady in Freeport was murdered and now another young lady in trouble. Both out later than they should be.

Where are the parents?

...obviously not parenting...heck...the parents are probably out at a bar, or copulating and procreating more morally corrupt children. Don't get me wrong, I despise the concept of rape, I think the perps should be hung up by their balls, or at the very least have them chopped off, but you are 17, you were out clubbing, it's 4am, did he DRAG you up to his room and attack you??, my sympathy starts to waiver ever so slightly slightly for the victim when the circumstances surrounding the lead up to the attack come in to play. Still think the guy should be strung up in this instance, but by the sounds of it, this 'minor', was not so innocent herself. 100% wrong on the guys part, but again, I have more sympathy for the unsuspecting lady, or person, doesn't have to be a lady, that is jumped out of the blue, than someone who may have lead another person on with their actions. In the end though, no means no, and wrong is wrong, they guy needs his balls cut off.

totally agree...rape is never right in no way or circumstances. However, this probably could have been avoided with a better judgement call on the young female's part.

Sadly, many of todays are good parents but many, many others are parents who are too old or too young to take note, and are only interested in satisfying their own passions, many have no interest in being responsible parents.

We must wait on all the facts in this one we don't want to falsely accuse someone of rape anymore than we want to victimize victims of rape.

That is very true...there are many sides to the story, some say 3, my version, your version and the truth. A 4am venture up to a man's hotel room, does not bode well for our little 17 year old though. Only the 2 of them truly know what transpired in that room.

Must have miss the part that reported that she went to the room willing. Seems like rape is ok no matter what based on the comments.

I highly doubt he dragged her from the event either...based on the context of the article it appears she went willingly.

Well if that is the case this should stand as a lesson to young females not to place themselves in situations such as these. And for young men just because a woman might seem willing at the beginning no still means no.

BahamianAway says...

Not necessarily so, keep in mind Bahamian students graduate early. I know I graduated at 16, by 17 I was completing my first year of college. So it isn't far-fetched for her to be out at this hour. The question is what kind of judgement skills does she possess, because at no age would I think it appropriate or safe to go into the room of a man I do not know by myself.

Now I don't know what transpired but I am going to go out in a limb here and say if she went to his room willingly and alone at 4am she had to be aware that sex was a possibility. I don't know many males that would have a female they just met come to their room if they didn't think sex was an option.

Possibly she changed her mind but at which point it might have been to late, but maybe this could have been avoided had she made a better judgement call. Not saying her being raped was justified but I am saying that females need to make better choices. And I know how these young Bahamian girls of this generation are...they go out to party, see a nice looking man, he appears to be balling, he invites her back to his room maybe with a promise to continue the party there (get more free drinks and room service), and in a bid to appear worldly and sophisticated they go along and end up in situations like this. Also I have seen women of all ages take drinks from men who they know are expecting some payment and when things get ugly it's a whole different story.

Fact is....we need to better equip our young females with morals and judgement.

What does graduating @ 16/17 have to do with anything? Eighteen is a legal adult not 16 or 17. Females, carry your own $$$$, a cell-phone with minutes on it and an ID of some sort. Ever heard of the Date Rape drug? Someone with a smiling friendly face slips in into your drink and you wake up with no memory of whatever happened. Don't be so naive/trusting/stupid! Males, you don't have to 'conquer' every female. Walk away. Use the head on your shoulders, or you could find yourself doing the Bank Lane Shuffle.

BahamianAway says...

I was responding to comments about where were her parents. I was out at 4am at college parties and such when I was her age but I also was raised to use good judgment. Never leave drinks unattended, if you go out with someone at no point do you separate and leave, have at least twenty dollars and ID in the event you need to get a cab or something happens, let someone know where you are going and if you leave let someone know that as well...so if you aren't back at a reasonable time someone with authority can be alerted, and most of all be aware of your surroundings

...the point I was making is that if she went willing to this man's room at this hour her judgment was off. Whether she was intoxicated I cannot say...also where was the friend she was supposedly with. There are clearly missing pieces to this story so all we have are assumptions.

My assumption based on this story is she went willing and the friend knew, things got out of hand and went to far.

At no point is rape justifiable but at the same token this possibly could have been avoided. It isn't victimizing the victim it's calling to light a situation that possibly went further than it should have.

WOW, it amazes me to see so much judgement. Bahamian people have to be the most judgmental and hypocrital people in the w0rld. Im sure none of you are perfect and did the same thing kids today are doing. If you didnt do it your parents did it. We are missing the bigger picture here, a girl got RAPED. Point. Blank. Period. She said no and that sick individual continued to do what he wanted . Just to be clear I have no affiliation to the victim , its just sad that judgment is coming to this girl rather than sympathy, concern or love. I once was 17, and although I wasnt the type to or allowed to go clubbing while my friends did, I still wasnt perfect. We need to focus on the issue at hand, and thats the crime that was done. Everyone running on about the wrong things and thats whats wrong with this country, we rather pass judgement and critisize. That guy need to be lost in fox hill prison.

What makes her more believable than him or him than her what we have is he said she said.. We don't want to falsely accuse someone of rape. All we know is they had sex & an accusation of rape. The circumstances could be that of date rape or false allegations of rape. U found the man guilty without any facts. Now that's unfair given the circumstances, give him the same process u would want a male relative to receive. He may be guilty but there is a process.

So aren't you just passing judgement by just reading this news article and saying, "That guy need to be lost in fox hill prison?" Were you in the room to see that he actually raped her? Maybe the sexual exchange went down and it was the friend whom may be older who brought the age of the individual up, and then rape was introduce to the equation.

What if she got busted having sex with a stranger & her boyfriend or parents found out & she cried rape. Or she's doing some payback for broken promise. Or she could of just been raped by a predator. WE DON'T KNOW, because the circumstances are unusual . I need more facts..

Bahamianpride says...

She could of said no or she could of made up accusation of rape after a boyfriend or parent found out she was having sex with some stranger she just met. Maybe he didn't keep his promise & she wanted to punish him. Maybe he is just a criminal rapist. We don't know because the circumstances surrounding this incident are unusually. But because she's a female doesn't automatically give her credibility & him none.

Good point Bahamian Pride...

This article is way to vague to assume it was rape or it wasn't. If it was then may the young man receive full punishment and if it isn't I hope they charge the female with providing false evidence and charges. Either way this goes someone should be charged...whether it's the man for rape or the female for crying rape if it wasn't so.

John says...

Girl invites boy to her room in college dorm during visitation hours. They start to 'make out' kissing and fondling. After a while girl decides she had enough and asks boy to stop. Boy is still excited and wants more. He holds girl down on bed and she screams. Help arrives and boy is arrested. Even though both are still fully clothed, boy is charged with sexual battery and attempted rape. He is found guilty and gets a 10 year prison sentence. Girl goes on to finish college and starts a successful career. After boy comes out of jail he will have a criminal record and will have to register as a sex offender. Is anything wrong with this picture?

Unfourtunately these kinds of things happen all the time which then takes away from legitimate rape cases where predators are actually grabbing people and forcing them to have sex.

I recall a story about an 18yr old boy who went to a party and had consensual sex with a 16yr old girl. The girl's parents later found out and she claimed it was rape and due to the fact she was 16 and he 18 the boy was tried as an adult and sentenced to 20yrs in prison. He lost his basketball scholarships for college and he was branded a sexual predator. His whole life was destroyed because one female didn't want to own up to her parents that she was sexually active. The truth later came out but it was over 10 yrs after the case. By this point though he had already lost his chance at playing college basketball, he had been in prison for almost half his life..

not saying this is the case here but anything is possible.
