Toddler drowns at Montagu Beach

THE unresponsive body of a toddler was pulled from waters at Montagu Beach yesterday, bystanders told The Tribune.

According to reports, a three-year-old boy was found floating near the shore by a beachgoer who, along with others, attempted to resuscitate the child, who was said to have been wearing diapers. An elementary school was having a picnic there at the time.

The incident occurred shortly after 5pm, according to witnesses at the scene, who said the child was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Last night, police said the child was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital, but died. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Oh Lord.

This just breaks your heart. Being the parent of a toddler myself I understand how easily accidents can happen (even when you think you have an eye on them). Condolences to the family.
