THE fate of embattled Progressive Liberal Party Fort Charlotte MP Dr Andre Rollins will continue in limbo until sometime in 2015, party Chairman Bradley Roberts said yesterday.
Mr Roberts told The Tribune that there has been little said of Mr Rollins’ future with the party because the disciplinary committee’s report had not been discussed among the executive of the PLP.
“The leadership of the party,” Mr Roberts said, “hasn’t met yet to receive the report or discuss it. That won’t happen until sometime in the new year.” Mr Roberts had previously said that the report was expected to reach completion a month ago. It is expected to contain the committee’s recommendation relating to disciplinary action against Dr Rollins following his public criticisms of the Prime Minister and the party leadership.
The four-member group is headed by PLP Stalwart Councillor Valentine Grimes.
Dr Rollins faces a possible two-year suspension from the party. He could also be denied a nomination in the 2017 general election or be reprimanded by the PLP’s National General Council based on the committee’s report.
The committee was activated in October after Dr Rollins several times publicly criticised Perry Christie and the leadership of the PLP. He has refused to apologise for his actions.
Dr Rollins said in October that while the Prime Minister was due respect, he was “not a god” or exempt from criticism.
He said calls for him to apologise to Mr Christie had no constructive purpose, but were merely an attempt to humiliate him. He also questioned the jurisdiction of the committee.
At the time Dr Rollins said: “The Prime Minister is the leader of our country and is due the respect of myself and my colleagues. But the Prime Minister is not free and exempt from criticism. He is a human being and is fallible just as we all are.
“He is not a god or someone to be worshipped. He is someone who ultimately has authority to act on or on behalf of the people of the Bahamas. We do not live in North Korea or Cuba or China where the views of citizens are to be suppressed or the views of elected officials. We are here to cause for our democracy to thrive. If I say nothing in the hope I will be afforded a nomination by the party I’m not putting the country’s interest first.”
Mr Roberts has told The Tribune that even if Dr Rollins apologised to Mr Christie there would still be a lot more to be done before his fate in the party is decided.

Doc Rollins can do better than the PLP ................. there is no space in the inner circles for his ilk (Moss, Wells, P.Forbes, Potcake, LilSmith) and even some of the others on the right back bench

**.................................... The PLP Need Rollins Now More Than Ever .................................**
With Cuba coming on stream and the PLP and FNM having led the country **"EYES AND MINDS WIDE SHUT"** from number one down to number 5 tourism position, and having totally failed to keep up with regional tourism resort development unabated for 40 consecutive years, **our country is rightfully the laughing stock of the region.**
Rollins is the one saving grace for the PLP..... No one with sense will vote to recycle parties that have proven beyond any shadow of doubt to have failed so mind bogglingly thoroughly.
Proof of their dismal failure is abundantly evident for all to see and more importantly to feel.
PLP and FNM must now unquestionably share the regional award for "Dumb Stupid Jackass's".
