A 25-year old Dorsett Street man was arraigned in the magistrates’ court yesterday in connection with the fatal Freedom Park drive-by shooting that claimed four lives and injured seven others.

Jermaine Curry’s arraignment comes a day after one of his alleged accomplices, Peter Rolle, broke down in tears during his murder arraignment.

Curry was charged with four counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder.

It is alleged that on Friday, December 27, he and others used means of unlawful harm to cause the death of Shaquille Demeritte, Eric Morrison, Claudezino Davis and Sheique Sands.

It is further alleged that he tried to murder Chino, Janet and John Davis, Benjamin Demeritte, Samuel Ferguson, Jermaine Pratt and Leroy Taylor.

Curry was not required to enter a plea and his case is expected to be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court through a Voluntary Bill of Indictment.

Curry told the magistrate during yesterday’s arraignment that his lawyer was absent because he was unable to reach him. He also expressed concerns over his safety while on remand due to the “nature of the charges.”

The magistrate told him he would be allowed to contact his lawyer and that the Superintendent of Her Majesty’s Prison would be informed of his security concerns.

The case was adjourned until March 18.
