A YEAR after his dismissal from the top post at the National Insurance Board, Marco City MP Gregory Moss yesterday spoke out against his own party’s actions during the ordeal.

The former NIB chairman said he had not forgotten how he was politically “vilified”, adding that he would revisit the matter “at the right time”.

Mr Moss said: “I am sick and tired of the politicians of this [House of Assembly]. I am waiting anxiously. I have spent the beginning of last year watching the tail end of my name being vilified in this house. I did what I had to do for my country, and I bore the price for that, and I haven’t forgotten that. I will get back to that very shortly at the right time.”

An audit into the accounts at NIB was undertaken after a 22-page letter written by Mr Moss with allegations against former director Algernon Cargill was leaked.

In the following months, multiple claims were lodged against both Moss and Cargill over allegations of misconduct and misuse of funds.

Mr Cargill was later suspended pending the outcome of the audit, and later dismissed for breach of confidentiality. Not long after, Mr Cargill filed a lawsuit against NIB and Mr Moss but lost the suit.

Later, Mr Moss was fired as Chairman of the Board by Prime Minister Perry Christie when he refused to resign.

Mr Christie ordered Mr Moss to tender his resignation or face being fired from his post after he criticised the Prime Minister on his Facebook page.

In that detailed criticism, Mr Moss also contradicted the Prime Minister saying that he was still in possession of his NIB issued credit card, despite Mr Christie’s assurances to the public that the MP was no longer in possession of it.

At that time, Board Minister Shane Gibson insisted that the forensic audit did not produce any adverse findings against Mr Moss.

Mr Moss said: “I have watched the Leader of the Opposition call me names in this house, called for me to be investigated, and when the report was tabled never said anything to withdraw it.

“Talking about another member of this house, I’ve watched my members on that side either contribute to that or not do anything to defend that, and when the report was put in place, never did anything to correct it on the record of this house.”

He added: “I have paid the price to be in this house, and I pay it happily.”

Mr Moss’s remarks came during his contribution to a debate on the Bahamas Spatial Data Infrastructure Programme Bill.
