I haven't felt safe at any waterfront south-western area of NP in many years. We used to go as a couple, it was safe, beautiful. Nowadays, if I told someone I was out there by the beach they would wonder why.

I think the lawyers of Nygard vs. Bacon should donate 10% of their attorney fees to pay for private security at Jaws Beach.

Best idea ever.

The thing with that beach is that it's so convenient in terms of if you want to rob someone. No one can see just by driving by.

It is eerie that I left this beach right around 3:30 or so. I did notice a few tourists out there and some people fishing which is prohibited by the way.

My wife and 2 kids have ventured out that way last year...but more on the Clifton Park side of the beach. Told her back then that while it is nice to have a beach to yourself in effect, it may not be the wisest of choices, she is completely the opposite end of the island...we are easterners...and just her and 2 small kids are easy targets on a concealed beach that can't be seen from the passing public.

Sad times...can't even go to the beach without getting jumped...

Many years ago i used to walk at Montagu Beach in the morning, when it was still dark, joining a couple of my neighbours. I stopped. Now they tell me people break the windows of cars to steal items from the car or the trunk while they walk, easy pickings for fancy dell phones or tablets.

Last time I went to Montagu Beach to walk was a Sunday afternoon, Guy pulls up in a truck with two unleashed pitbulls. I got into my car as soon as i could and left, what am I do to do? tell a guy with two unleashed pitbuuls to get off the beach?

They also robbed the family of an American Embassy employee on the beach right by Nesbitt's.

I always carry $50 with me in case of robbery. They might not take any credit cards then.

I've always wondered if the Govt would be receptive to granting contracts to privately owned Bahamian "lifeguard/security"companies for our public beaches or even invest in this initiative themselves to cut down on crimes and drownings at our beaches.

Comrade Goodread, unfortunately there are no simple answer when it comes to crime. Why would they be afraid of some unarmed beach lifeguard, when they held-up the police driver in his own driveway and later thugs held the DPM and his family at gunpoint.

Single mothers /absentee fathers combined w/ abusing children verbally and physically as a form of discipline is the perfect recipe for producing anti social , violent young adults..

Instead of wasting money on a pointless crime survey and boldly proclaiming to put a policeman on every street corner, why not start by listing a policeman on every tourist attraction in New Providence including beaches? The criminal underclass is draining the lifeblood of this country.
