“One of the most capable warships in the world” will be docked into Prince George Wharf during the next three days as its 200-member crew seeks to strengthen its relationship with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
The crew members of the Royal Navy Type 23 Duke Class frigate, HMS Richmond, will host a training programme for several members of the Defence Force to help the force with its counter-narcotics operations.
They will also engage in carpentry and painting work on buildings owned by Ican Community Limited. The buildings will be used to host an after-school programme for “at risk” youth beginning in May.
The commanding officer of HMS Richmond, Commander RG Pedre, told the press he is delighted to be in the Bahamas and to “give back” to the Bahamian community on behalf of the Royal Navy.
He noted that the 20-year-old HMS Richmond is among the most efficient ships of its kind, with a crew that is among the world’s most highly qualified.
The HMS Richmond is currently nearing the completion of its seven-month operational deployment to the Atlantic.
The ship has a strong history of aiding Caribbean countries in the face of natural disasters.
Throughout the world, it works to prevent conflict, protect the United Kingdom’s economy, promote partnerships, provide humanitarian relief and provide maritime security in the face of the illegal traffic in drugs, weapons and people.
Yesterday marks the first time since 2008 that a Royal Navy ship docked in the Bahamas.

Maybe what they need to do is wait until all the cruise ships clear out...aim their guns at Parliament square and blow a crater in the middle of town and repossess the island on behalf of the British Empire...LOL

The British Empire celebrates July 10, 1973 in a way that most Bahamians will never come to know but really should understand and appreciate.

Vote "No" Camilla ever gracing her mugshot on we so pretty Bahamaland currency. Comrade Realty_check in 2012 "Head Comrade" Queen Liz granted Camilla the highest female rank of the Victoria Order, and let all Bahamalanders hope and pray she remains but a "almost Royal" Dame of da Grand Cross and never becomes da Queen reigning over we Bahamaland.
