A Supreme Court judge has sentenced 32-year-old Alban Johnson to 10 years in jail for the statutory rape of a 14-year-old in May 2013.
Last week, a nine member jury returned with a unanimous guilty verdict in a little under 90 minutes after being excused by Senior Justice Jon Isaacs to deliberate on the charge of unlawful sexual intercourse.
Johnson faced up to life imprisonment for the offence.

Only 10 years? And the press needs to consistently call these acts what they are so the nation's consciousness can be properly enlightened. He didn't "have sex" with a 14 year old as the headline says - he raped her. It is rape. Call it what it is when headlining these stories. Just as the media says a pedophile "had sex" with a 6 year old. The term "have sex" in our social consciousness tends to denote an act engaged in by both parties. You cannot "have sex" with a child, you rape or molest a child. A child is not "having sex" with an adult. The child is being raped or molested by an adult. In your headlines and stories, call these crimes what they are.
