A MAN in a wheelchair was shot dead and another victim is fighting for his life in hospital after they were shot while visiting a female friend late Tuesday night.

Police have launched an island-wide manhunt in New Providence for the two men they believe to be responsible.

The shooting took place shortly before midnight at Sandra Drive off Sunset Park. According to reports, the two victims were visiting a female friend at a home when two men, armed with handguns, emerged from nearby bushes and shot them multiple times.

One man was shot twice in the chest, the other in the lower abdomen and leg. The woman was unharmed.

Both men were rushed to hospital in critical condition, but one died shortly after his arrival. The other man is listed in serious, but stable condition.

The suspects are described as two dark men who wore white T-shirts and dark pants.

Police have not released the identity of the murder victim, but The Tribune understands he is 22-year-old Michael McIntosh. Mr McIntosh, who was in a wheelchair, was graduated from  C V Bethel in 2009.

Supt Paul Rolle, Officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit, said police are still unsure of exactly what happened and have no motive for the crime. He said after police speak with the surviving victim, they will “get a clearer understanding”.

Anyone with information on this latest murder is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
