A MAN was remanded to prison without bail yesterday after being arraigned in connection with a near-fatal shooting and endangerment of three police detectives last weekend.
Adrian Munroe, 19, of Golden Isles Road appeared before Magistrate Andrew Forbes of court no.8 facing three charges; attempted murder and two counts of possession of firearms with intent to endanger life. Munroe was not required to enter a plea to these charges.
It is claimed that he, on June 8, attempted to kill Corporal Garth Harris and while in possession of a Ruger Pistol, intended to endanger the lives of Constables Ronrico Taylor and Ronald Cash.
Around 9pm on the day in question, plain-clothes officers (acting on intelligence) were attempting to arrest a suspect in the Elizabeth Estates area who they suspected had a firearm. The suspect fired several shots in the direction of the officers resulting in one of the officers being struck in his right arm. The officer was taken to hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Magistrate Forbes informed Munroe that his case was likely to be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court for trial after being reviewed by the Attorney General’s office.
The magistrate further informed Munroe that he would appear before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt of court no. 9 on June 24 to receive a fixture date as to when he will be served with a Voluntary Bill of Indictment to forward the case to the higher court.
The magistrate said Munroe would be denied bail and would be remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison until his next court appearance.
