EDITOR, The Tribune.
The “far-fetch notion” that a woman should lead us has simply exposed who the real men are. It is true that men who are comfortable in their own skin are not afraid of women or their abilities.
I wrote several letters to the editor about the need for us as a people to “cast our nets on the other side!” I painstakingly laid out the reasoning why I personally believe that it is high time for a woman to lead us. Since then, some slimy and cowardice men have used women with low self esteem to respond. These men lack the courage to outwardly show their objection.
A few men would easily salute their mothers, showcase their wives and brag about their daughters, but none of whom are good enough to lead.
Men with no backbone, many of whom use women as a “thing” rather than a person who should be respected with a brain and are more that a sex object, are advancing the propaganda that the country is not ready for a woman.
Are we a primitive country? What foolishness is this “not ready?” What would make us ready for a woman, and how long would it take? What all do we need to do to get ready?
Why are these cowards, who hide behind women to sell their foolishness, so afraid of a woman leading? Why are they combining their efforts to circumvent any attempt by a woman to even think of aspiring to lead.
Real men protect all women. Real men support their woman. Real men show respect to their mothers, real men don’t disrespect their wives and real men do not discourage their daughters.
This obvious fear of women in leadership must have come from men who hate women, from men who mistreat women, must come from men who use and abuse women, and certainly men who think women are less than them.
Just look at the men who object, they usually are “chauvinist” who would never accept women as their equal. These are the same men who complain that women should not be in charge in the corporate world. But for the sake of those who may plead ignorance to what chauvinist really means, let me help. It means “a male who patronizes, disparages, or otherwise denigrates females in the belief that they are inferior to males and thus deserving of less than equal treatment or benefit”.
This kind of mentality, is the reason that the Bahamas will remain a third world country because even though we subscribe to many organizations that promote women, it is all a front. None of our male leaders are serious about women and women’s affairs. Otherwise why hasn’t the PM rushed toward making women equal with the same rights as it relates to having foreign spouses? This one point is where the PLP outsmarted all of the women to vote against themselves, and they did!
After all of this time, from 2001 until now, women should have now been playing on an even playing field. Therefore, I say this, “the only way that women will get the equality as it relates to a foreign spouse or otherwise is when a woman who feels their pain is in charge.”
The only time when domestic violence will get any real attention is when a woman is at the helm. The only time children will get the real attention is when a woman, especially a mother who has feelings, is making the decisions. The question has not been given the kind of attention it is because men seem less empathetic to woman’s plight.
“Of all the evils for which man has made himself responsible, none is so degrading, so shocking or so brutal as his abuse of the better half of humanity; the female sex.”
Mahatma Gandhi

Many a Bahamian man knows the shear crushing power of a large Bahamian woman aka Bahama Mama. The wiser Bahamian man never lets one get on top of him as he values his well-being!

Most of our Commonwealth country partners have already had female leaders and for the most part can boast of very good results ......... from Barbados to Britain, Australia to India ..... so if Bahamians can identify a capable charismatic female politician/leader who is a better choice that her male counterpart ................ let's go for it!!!!!!!!
