Thieves steal $1m of equipment from Robin Hood site

THE site of the former Robin Hood store has continued to be targeted by thieves.

During the past several months, the total replacement value of the theft at Robin Hood is in excess of $1million, according to Tall Pines MP Leslie Miller.

Thieves pillaged all of the component parts in a brand new 20-ton air-conditioning unit as well as all the internal parts in four 12.5 ton units, in addition in the total stripping of 12 10-ton units, as well as the complete gutting of a rack room that runs the entire refrigeration and cooler systems of the former Robin Hood stores.

According to Mr Miller, the damage to the rack room alone is in excess of $300,000.

The Tall Pines MP said that damage was also done to the BEC electrical room, with the removal of all of the interior wiring, as well as all of the interior parts in most, if not all, of the coolers and freezers.

This, he said, puts the total cost of replacing, with labour costs and materials, the damage at over $1.5 million.

Speaking with The Tribune, Mr Miller said it was “despicable” that this situation is allowed to go on endlessly. He said it will never stop until the government totally prohibits the export of copper, and other aluminium products from the Bahamas – none of which he stressed are produced in the Bahamas.

“Bahamians need to appreciate why the cost of food items as well as related products are so expensive in our country.

“The average business enterprise in our country is under constant assault by these heartless mercenaries and thieves in collaberation with the junkyards that facilitate the daily destruction of businesses in our country.

“I again appeal with the government to please, ban the export of these products. Enable the business houses in this country to have a fighting chance to be successful.

“The constant interruption and the cost associated with this daily nightmare in our country has to come to an abrupt halt. I am begging them to please stop the carnage,” he said.

Mr Miller added that the failure to do so might as well amount to business persons simply handing over the keys to their establishments to the criminals.

“We might as well give it to them,” he said.

Comrades they ain't just robb'in from da former Robin Hood building. It's most obvious from the silly comments that none you own or have close family members operating a business or rental properties, or even working for any business. I guess, if not being at all being directly/indirectly affected by having business things stolen/stripped for cooper value, then you also don't care that the costs have be passed down to their customers and when that becomes impossible the business is forced cease operations. If you shop to buy things you're the one who ends up paying for what your poking fun at Comrade Potcake is going through courtesy of thieves.. And, you might as well stop complaining about the escalating crime rates in ya own Bahamaland, cause your as guilty s sin of putting on your own robb'in masks cause you is partnering with the criminals harming and steeling Potcake's business/property things.

U make a valid point, however Miller is a politician and him asking for the government to take action when he is a Minister puzzles many, its like looking in the mirror and asking yourself to shave. People know that the politicians and corrupt business people are stealing money left and right so they have no sympathy for his voice. Does not justify or make it right but that's what we have come to.. The robbing and stealing entirely has to stop from the top to the bottom.. White collar theft and the theft he describes is still theft

Comrade BahamianPride I is go'in kept on questioning the silly comments accusing Potcake and others of things of which you have no evidence except words. The words posted here on these Tribune pages makes the Comrades behind them to be no different than the criminals wearing the masks. I suggest you and others straightened up and i say to all you. "Let anyone's of you who is not directly/indirectly affected financially by all stealing, be the first to throw ya verbal stones at Potcake?" Besides, Potcake is not a minster of the crown.
