Poll says no fee for casino entry

Bahamians should NOT have to pay a fee to gamble in local casinos, according to the majority of voters in the Tribune242.com poll.

After MP Andre Rollins’ recent suggestion that Bahamians could pay a $200 tariff for casino gambling, The Tribune asked readers what they thought of the plan.

A large majority, 68 per cent, said Bahamians should not pay any fee to gamble. However, 21 per cent said Bahamians should not be allowed to gamble in casinos.

Five per cent supported a fee of less than $200, and a further 5 per cent backed Dr Rollins’ suggestion.

Commenting on the poll, ‘Required’ said: “Hang on... weren’t we recently told we wouldn’t be allowed to gamble because all this money leaving the country due to the casinos being foreign-owned would endanger the parity with the US dollar... and now they want an additional $200 per Bahamian gambler to leave the country? Or is the government going to collect this $200... In which case, I suggest we call it the “Equal Rights Tax”!’

Don’t miss your chance to vote in a brand new poll on the Tribune242.com homepage.
