TEMPLE the Word Ministries was created by Rev Dr Gary Curry some 20 years ago. He envisioned an outreach ministry of Evangelistic Temple being established in the southern part of New Providence, which became a reality in 1999 when a building was purchased on Breadfruit Street in Pinewood Gardens.
Representatives of the church said its history is an exciting one, as it is an example of what God can do with people who have committed themselves to the work He called them to do.
Temple of the Word Ministries was dedicated on Thursday, September 30, 1999 with the senior pastor, Rev Dr Curry, performing the act of dedication and Rev Cyril Sands of the Evangelistic Centre delivering the message. On Sunday, March 5, 2000, the morning service was conducted by Minister Paul Tynes, with the opening prayer and scripture by Minister Simeon Rolle. Praise and worship was led by Brother Caver Dorsett and Pastor Kenneth Adderley preached the sermon, “Is Your Temple in Need of Repair”.
The church’s purpose statement, “Making Disciples for the 21st Century and Beyond”, was selected by Minister Rolle and Sister Bernadette Adderley, who coordinated the logo and scripture along with the mandate. Temple of the Word Ministries over the past years has grown from strength to strength and has impacted its congregation spiritually. The church has also influenced many in the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Cuba, Guyana, Kenya and Uganda, East Africa, South Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, the Caribbean and the United States.
“We can truly testify that God is pouring out His Spirit in the last days upon all flesh,” the church said in a press statement.
Rev Adderley’s ministerial trek began in 1990 as he accepted God’s call. He served the Evangelistic Temple until Rev Dr Curry envisioned the Temple of the Word Ministries.
Rev Adderley became a licensed minister in 2001 and later ordained as a Reverend in 2003.
In May 2004, Rev Adderley was elected General Presbyter of the Assemblies of God in the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, where he served for three years.
In 2011, Pastor Adderley established Kam Ministries Africa, which is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.
