SWIMMING

CARIFTA TRIALS

THE Bahamas Swimming Federation is scheduled to hold its final trials this weekend before they select the team to represent the Bahamas at the CARIFTA Swimming Championship. The trials start 6pm Friday at the Betty Kelly Kenning Swimming Complex. It will continue 9am Saturday and wrap up with the final session at 6pm.

On Sunday, the federation intends to select the national team. The maximum total the federation can select is 36. This year’s championship will be held in Aruba April 22-26. Last year in Kingston, Jamaica, the Bahamas finished sixth in the medal standings with eight gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze for a total of 29 medals. And the Bahamas was fifth in the point standings with 509. Dustin Tynes, Laura Morley and Albury Higgs are just some of the competitors to watch out for during the trials.

THE Masters Softball League is slated to begin its first round best-of-three playoff series this weekend at the Archdeacon William Thompson Softball Park at the Southern Recreational Grounds.

The two winners will advance to the best-of-five championship series.

KEVIN ‘KJ’ Johnson, president of the Government Secondary Schools Sports Association, is calling all coaches in their association to a meeting scheduled for 1pm Monday in the conference room of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture. The purpose for the meeting is to discuss the start of baseball in the junior and senior high schools.
