Flames leap into sky as dump blazes again

FIRE broke out at the city dump again last night, the third blaze at the New Providence landfill in less than three months.

The first two fires were said to have been completely extinguished, according to Deputy Director of Environmental Services Thomasina Wilson on March 27.

The fires burned for some three weeks causing widespread discomfort to area residents who were forced to evacuate due to heavy smoke.

Several schools were also closed temporarily as winds spread fumes over New Providence.

Just let it burn...do not contain it...this country is going to hell in a handbasket, may as well get the party started. Crank up the inferno.

These fires are being deliberately set..and until the government comes up with some reasonable and sensible solution regarding this landfill there WILL ALWAYS be issues.

SOLUTION
Close down the old section of the Harold Road dumpsite completely and let a private company create a recycling operation combined with incinerators and bunker covered dumpsites ........... whatever happened to the 3 bunker sites that were to last 15-20 years each????????

Where is Kenred Dorsett??? During his campaign I seem to remember him walking up and down our neighborhood making promises and claiming he had logical solutions to various problems. Now, he like his government, has proven impotent and mute on critical issues.

Don't understand why government doesn't invest in a plant that uses waste to generate power instead of letting the garbage pile up in an old fashioned dump!
