'Sorry may not be enough for Rollins'

PLP CHAIRMAN Bradley Roberts said yesterday even if Fort Charlotte MP Dr Andre Rollins apologises to the Prime Minister in the House of Assembly today, there is “still a lot more” he has to do before his fate in the party is decided.

Mr Roberts told The Tribune that “only time will tell” if Dr Rollins will apologise and “mean it”, but regardless of the decision he makes “more than an apology is needed.”

Last Friday, PLP council members demanded that Dr Rollins publicly apologise in parliament to Prime Minister Perry Christie for his actions.

“His matter has already been referred to the committee and the committee is doing a review and will report back to the council and the council will make a decision on the way forward – but it requires more than an apology,” Mr Roberts said yesterday. “Only time will tell what will happen.”

Last week’s emotional meeting followed weeks of tension between party members and Dr Rollins over his severe criticisms of the party’s leadership, and controversial position against key pieces of legislation, including the package of Gaming bills, Value Added Tax and the proposed constitutional referendum.

A four-member committee has been appointed to review Dr Rollins’ actions, and subsequent explanation, and will present recommendations on his fate at next month’s meeting.

Parliamentary Secretary Renward Wells is also expected to address House members today.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Christie told The Tribune that he told Mr Wells he would have to speak on the Letter of Intent controversy before the House breaks for the summer.

More than two months after the concerns were first raised over whether Mr Wells was authorised to sign the $650m letter of intent with Stellar Waste to Energy Management, speculation continues to mount over who gave him the directive to do so.

Some have called for Mr Wells to resign or be fired over the matter.

Dr Rollins ignited more controversy in an NB12 news report last week, threatening to expose the identities of other people involved in the matter if his friend, Mr Wells, were fired over the issue.

The PLP Chairman then told Dr Rollins to “put up or shut up” over his threats. Mr Roberts called the PLP newcomer “egomaniacal” and ordered him to “shut the hell up”.

Dr Rollins has since said he did not mean to suggest that he has information about corruption in the government, but only wanted the Prime Minister to deal with the matter.

Rollins will be apologizing to all for the rest of his political life after the way he has handled this. He needs to stick to pulling teeth. At least he is paid well for it.

Rollins apology:..... Mr. Christie I apologize for saying you were a useless ineffectual leader that has done nothing positive that the average small man actually feel and the country needs new leadership.

But you are still a useless ineffectual leader that has done nothing positive that the average small man actually feel and the country needs new leadership.

Let this be a lesson to all other members of the Party. Shut up, vote yes to whatever the PM tables in the House, say yes to whatever the PM and DPM say, and continue to say that the Party is doing a great job and the country is just fantastic and excellent and everything is one big bed of roses.

In that manner, you will remain a member in good standing. Don't worry, the people will vote for you next time - or else they will give the FNM another term and then they will come back to the PLP again. Those are the only two parties the people will vote for, and so you have nothing to worry about.
