TROPICAL Storm Edouard strengthened into a hurricane yesterday in the central Atlantic with sustained winds of 80mph, although it was expected to remain far out at sea and pose no threat to land.

The US National Hurricane Centre said Edouard’s centre was 915 miles east-north-east of the northern Leeward Islands and was moving northwest at 16mph.
