SIX men were arrested, two of whom were seriously injured, after a high-speed chase and shoot out with police early Thursday morning.

The drama unfolded shortly after 2.50am.

Police said they received reports of gunshots being fired in the area of East Street South and Malcolm Road.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw three suspicious Honda vehicles parked at a gas station. When the occupants of these cars saw police, they attempted to speed off, however officers were able to block them in.

Police said one of the men exited one of the vehicles with a handgun and began firing at the officers.

Police returned fire, shooting one of the suspects to the side. Police also recovered a handgun the suspect dropped at the scene.

During the exchange, one of the cars sped off, leading police on a high-speed chase.

Police said the suspects began firing shots at police in the area of Winders Terrance; police returned fire but the suspects still refused to stop.

The chase ended at the junction of East Street and Sapodilla Boulevard when the suspects crashed into another vehicle.

The suspects exited the vehicle and began firing at police again, leading police to return fire. One of the suspects was shot to the lower back during the exchange of gunfire.

Afterwards, police arrested six males and recovered three Hondas that they suspect are stolen.

The two suspects that were shot were taken to hospital where they remain in serious condition.

Investigations continue.

awesome job by the police and thanks to them for continuing to put their lives on the line everyday for relatively little pay. this has got to be one of the toughest jobs in the Bahamas and they deserve more credit. Let's hope the courts do their job and these guys are put away for a long time.

Yes thank you police. Let's hope that the two criminals, who got shot, die in hospital and that the other 4 commit suicide will in custody. This will be the best possible outcome as we won't have to risk our court system failing us yet again.

Rest in peace, I mean hell, criminals.

Another fine example to show us how dangerous a policeman's work really is. These things don't happen like we see in the movies. Every day, these men are putting their lives at risk and I applaud them and respect them for it. Thank you! [Daniela][1]
