EDITOR, The Tribune.
I see where Prime Minister Christie challenged FNM Leader Dr Hubert Minnis and DNA Leader Branville McCartney to a debate. Mr McCartney has accepted the challenge but Dr Minnis says that he won’t debate Mr Christie.
What is Dr Minnis afraid of? He’s probably afraid because he knows that Mr Christie would easily beat him in any debate. Dr Minnis would lose a debate very badly because he isn’t capable of thinking on his feet or thinking through the major issues in the country.
If he can’t do either of these things then he wouldn’t make a good prime minister. Dr Minnis should debate the Prime Minister so we can see what kind of leader he would be if he had the job.
If Dr Minnis can’t debate Perry Christie, he won’t be able to do tough negotiations with foreign leaders and foreign investors as well as labour leaders and others.
Showing that you can stand up and debate the issues important to Bahamians is a test of leadership. Dr Minnis needs to show that he can think on his feet and go head to head with Mr Christie. If he can’t do this now, then he won’t be able to do it when the next election comes.

This whole debate thing is just another attempt to sidetrack Bahamians from the real issues. This government has failed miserably. What is Mr. Christie going to say in a debate? We are too easily awed by sweet words and empty promises. That is why we are in this mess in the first place. I am glad that Dr. Minnis did not fall for this trick. If you were doing such a great job, why is it necessary for a sitting Prime Minister to debate the leader of the opposition? those who say Dr. Minnis is scared got it wrong. PGC is the one who is scared that he is losing ground with the Bahamian populace, hence he needs to try and woo us again with big words in a debate. If PGC had done half as much as he talked, we would be in a much better Bahamas today.

BM needs to sit small cause he really think he has some traction just because he formed a 3rd party after disrespecting his boss publicly! Too, did he conveniently forgot that he said if he did not win his seat in the 2012 elections that he would quit! What about the remarks he made that he wants to take his family out of the country and live elsewhere because of the high crime rate! He really believes he suppose to be the next prime minister of our country but I would like to know what makes him think so. He has a split personality and the public only sees what he wants them to see but ask his employees in his law firm how disgusting he can be! He talks down to his employees and is not a good person to work with which is why staff turnover in his law firm is so high! Debate that Mr. Green Dilly!
