THE TWO Bahamian explorers who reached the North Pole last week are suffering further ordeals as they attempt to come home from the Arctic Circle.
On Sunday Mark Roberts and Shaune Adderley had to be rescued from the ice cap and yesterday severe blizzards prevented any air traffic at the Barneo Russian polar base. The pair say they are homesick and “desperate” to get back to the Bahamas.
A post on the Bahamas North Pole Explorers Facebook page today reads: “Missing family, friends and country. We were rescued yesterday from ice patch we were on. Thank goodness ... Today we r in blizzard conditions no planes can get us from Barneo. It is looking grim.
“The Russian base is friendly and we have barrack style tents but still no showers. We really need the prayers and positive vibes of our nation to send us a clear bit of weather so we can return home safely. We have accomplished an unbelievable challenge and took the flag to the top of the world. Our entire team of explorers, the New Zealanders, guides and dogs need local media to spread the word to pray for a safe return.”
Roberts, 48, and Adderley, 40, colleagues at FYP/Builders Mall, were part of a six-member team which ski-trekked 100 miles across moving ice sheets last week to the North Pole.
“We are desperate to get home and are half dead from the Herculean effort to attain the goal. It was scary as I have ever been scared and so thankful we have made it this far” the post read.

After 40+ years of dealing with the PLP and FNM these guys decided hypothermia, polar bears or NOTHING worse could possibly befall them.
Questionable theory, but then, whats the relativity of dead vs. just as good as dead?

Why should Comrades Mark and Shaune be feeling all that Bahamaland homesick, being they is likes they could have been stranded at just about any of our Out Islands landing strips, as they await daybreak, cuz there are no nighttime landing lights. Enjoy your fantasy adventure, good job and relax - da plane will eventually land - at least it always eventually does land on TV and in Bahamaland. Oh yeah, listen carefully for da bell.

Why the hell was it minutely important to place the Bahamian flag at the North Pole in the first place?
Needlessly risking life and limb to do something so utterly useless that actually helps no one is just plain S-T-U-P-I-D to start with!
Sorry guys....I thought it was a useless dumb thing to do from the first report received of them getting there.
I've traveled to many parts of the world and done some questionable stuff....But these guys set out knowing dam well that life itself would be hanging on a thread for the duration of the trek to the North Pole.
Good luck and God's speed...You two clowns are really gonna need it!

My sister and I wondered the same thing. Rigorous training and serious mental fortitude and necessary to undertake such a venture. We wondered if they were fully prepared.

Comrade da Bahamaland flag is solid evidence dont you agree? Personally, I am proud of Mark and Shaune's accomplishments and so should you. But I have my doubts that the adventurous Comrades will be properly recognized upon their 'safe' return home?
