Neighbours subdue ‘robber’

AN armed robber was subdued by concerned neighbours who came to the rescue of a woman who was struggling with the would-be thief, police said.

Police now have a 24–year-old man of Bacardi Road in custody. He was arrested shortly after the attempted armed robbery yesterday.

According to reports, shortly after 8am, a woman was about to get into her car in front of her home on Spikenard Road, when a man armed with a handgun attempted to rob her of her handbag. A struggle followed and the woman alerted nearby residents who came to her rescue. The suspect attempted to flee but he was subdued by residents who notified the police. The police arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and arrested the suspect.

Police praised the efforts of the concerned neighbours, but cautioned residents to make thoughtful, reasonable and prudent decisions about becoming physically involved in captures.

Well done Spikenard Road neighbours. I am glad no one was seriously injured.

It is very sad that good neighbours are now at the point where they themselves would risk their own lives to help a neighbour. We Bahamians are soooo frustrated with the level of crime that we would literally die in an attempt to stop criminals and to seek justice.

Criminals beware! We are ALL out to get you.
