Five armed robberies overnight, woman caught at airport with handgun

POLICE are investigating another spate of overnight armed robberies in New Providence and have arrested a 25-year-old woman for firearms possession at the Lynden Pindling International Airport.

Officers responded to five incidents of armed robbery on Friday night/Saturday morning. Shortly after 7pm, a man and a woman outside a business establishment on Carmichael Road near Bacardi Road, were approached by a man with a handgun who robbed them of their grey 2000 Honda CRV before speeding off.

Shortly after 8.30pm, a woman walking on Prince Charles Drive was relieved of a small amount of cash by a man with a handgun. He fled on foot.

Around 10pm, two men were walking on Kemp Road when four men armed with a handgun approached and robbed them of four cellphones before running off.

Shortly after midnight, a man was sitting in his red 2015 Hyundai Elantra at Montague Ramp, when two males armed with a handgun approached and robbed him of his vehicle before speeding off.

And shortly before 1am, a woman was at her home at Marine Drive, when two males armed with a handgun robbed her of a cellphone. The men fled in a black 2002 Honda Accord.

Police have also arrested a 25-year-old woman of Jubilee Gardens for firearms possession at the Lynden Pindling International Airport.

Around 5pm on Friday, security officials at the Domestic Section at LPIA conducted a search of a handbag and found a 9mm handgun. The police were notified and the woman was arrested and taken into custody.

Investigations continue into all these incidents.
