US Embassy issues Christmas crime warning

The US Embassy in Nassau has issued a Christmas crime warning for American residents living in The Bahamas or planning travel to this country, urging them to “remain on heightened alert to avoid being a victim of crime”.

The warning said the holiday season often brings an increase in crime, particularly armed robberies and burglaries.

The embassy added that US citizens were the victims of a “carjacking” at Jaws Beach in western New Providence on November 26.

“US citizens residing in or traveling to The Bahamas should review their personal security plans,” the warning said.

“Remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates. Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.

“Robbers and burglars will often conduct pre-attack surveillance by watching the intended property and victim(s). This underscores the need for an increased awareness of common activities, which can directly impact personal security.”

The warning encouraged Americans living or travelling to this country to always be vigilant for threats of crime; not to carry around a large amount of cash; and avoid walking in dark, unlit areas.

The warning also urged Americans to keep their car doors locked and windows rolled up while driving and to avoid getting boxed in by other cars while driving.

In August, the British and Canadian governments both warned their citizens that crime in the Bahamas is increasing and urged travellers to New Providence to be vigilant.

The warnings were placed on each country’s respective websites.

Thank you for the insight!

What an embarrassing state of affairs the Bahamas is! This is a black-eye for our nation! And while our number one industry goes to the dogs, Perry Christies number one way of dealing with our problems is to simply ignore them and pretend as though they do not exist.

While Bahamas has become a concern for the tourist, they should find alternative destinations to travel. If you are looking like for like then you should certainly travel to Mauritius. It is an exotic location with blessed beaches which would amaze you as well you can opt for the various Cruises which operates in that region. I would certainly recommend you to go for a [Mauritius package][1] where you thoroughly enjoy.
