EDITOR, The Tribune
Recently, there was a fascinating TV programme showing how the White House was decorated for the holiday season.
It was gratifying to note that President Obama, his family and staff, etc, were able to get through the whole TV show without offending anyone. They carefully observed political correctness and smoothly avoided use of the word “Christmas”.
For example, they have apparently done away with Christmas trees in the White House, but cleverly replaced them with ‘holiday trees’.
We Bahamians are no slouches either when it comes to PC. Not too long ago we banned a very offensive Jewish symbol which had sneaked into our downtown Christmas (oops!) holiday decorations – a menorah! This momentous pc triumph conveniently overlooked the fact that most of the people reportedly present at Christ’s birth, including the Christ Child, were Jews.
Nevertheless, PC consciousness sometimes presents its own difficulties.
For instance, what on earth are we going to rename Easter?
Unfortunately, names such as ‘Season-After-Winter Bonnets’ or ‘Vernal Bunnies’ or even ‘Spring Eggs’ simply don’t sound quite right.
“Happy Holidays” everyone.

The huge PC Pendulum is swinging back now and liable to take more than PC with it. PC being Political Correctness in this instance.

Wrong! The Jews most certainly believe Jesus was a person, they just don't believe he was the messiah.
Also Tal, do you also no know that the Torah (the Jewish holy book) is actually the first books of the bible.
This is all aside from the fact that Christmas also has nothing to do with Jesus. It's based on traditional practices of Germanic tribes and was simply shoehorned to fit with the Jesus story. Apart from a Cross, an Angel and a Star, there are very few symbols of Christmas that have anything to do with Christianity.
Please educate yourself a little bit. Your ignorance is showing again.

I wonder if birdie realizes that the Old Testament is the Jewish Bible and the New Testament starts with Christ but is founded on the Old Testament.
From Wikipedia
Judeo-Christian is a term used by many Christians since the 1950s to encompass perceived common ethical values based on Christianity and Judaism. It has become part of American civil religion and is often used to promote inter-religious cooperation.
birdie's comment is exactly why this country is where it is today. In a cesspool of corruption.
