Golden Gates men softball champions, Macedonia walk away with co-ed title

WHILE Golden Gates regained their Baptist Sports Council men’s title over Charles W Saunders, they relinquished their co-ed title to Macedonia.

Both of the best-of-three championship series were concluded with a two-game sweep Thursday night as both Golden Gates and Macedonia won the clincher in a rout, unlike their openers on Tuesday that went right down to the wire.

Golden Gates, who had a come-from-behind walk-off-the-field 13-12 nipping on a three-run homer from Jeffery Woodside on Tuesday, came back two days later and pulled off a huge 21-7 win over Charles W Saunders for their sweep.

Woodside, the starting catcher, had a perfect 3-for-3 night with a pair of doubles with three RBI and two runs. He was named the most valuable player of the series.

In the co-ed series, Macedonia, an 18-16 winner in game one on Tuesday, stayed red hot as they reeled off an impressive 21-11 victory in the clincher on Thursday.

Centre fielder Rodney Forbes, who was 3-for-4 with two RBI in game one, almost matched that effort in game two as he went 3-for-4 with  three RBI and was named the MVP. He ended up with six hits, five RBI and five runs scored.
