EDITOR, The Tribune.
On Sunday, December 20, my family and I attended the 242 All Star Peace and Love Motorbike Showcase and Stunt Competition. Sad to say that the reputation for event organisation in this country has yet another black mark against it.
I will try to simplify our experience as tastefully as possible. We were told by the ticket sellers and promoters that the event would start at around 2pm as the time and place were not printed on the tickets. We arrived at 2.15pm to find that they were not even set up as yet and bikers had not even arrived. The seating area – if you want to call it that – consisted of rusty rotten bleachers.
Being a “family event” of course there were those with children who wanted to sit. Needless to say, we risked life and limb and sat on the sturdier of the bleachers. Finally, at about 3.30pm bikers started to arrive. These were just local boys on their trail bikes prancing and popping wheelies in the general public area where kids were running around playing and the audience were milling about at various food and drink vendors. Of course there were near death accidents and instances where pedestrians were nearly run over. Oh, did I mention that there were no barricades or safety nets put in place? We were told that international competitors would be in attendance. Never saw them. The majority of riders were not even wearing helmets.
I did not have to pay to see this lame display as we see it for free everyday on the streets of Nassau. Never saw a stunt. Of course the rain came down at about 4.30pm and lots of people, including tourists, left wet and disappointed.
Can I get a refund?
HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED BUT NOT SURPRISED
