A 30-year-old American man is in custody assisting police with investigations into the stabbing death of his elderly father-in-law over the weekend in the Hawksbill area.
The incident is Grand Bahama’s third murder for the year.
According to reports, police received calls around 5am on Saturday of a domestic dispute between family members at a residence on Bimini Place in Hawksbill.
Police and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene. On arrival officers discovered the lifeless body of an elderly black man on the floor of a bedroom. He had been stabbed.
The victim was pronounced dead by EMS personnel.
Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police Advardo Dames reported that the victim’s relative, who is a 30-year-old American citizen, is in custody assisting police with the matter.
Police sources on the island told The Tribune that a husband and wife were reportedly having an argument at their home shortly before the elderly victim was stabbed.
The island’s first murder occurred on January 8 when a young man was stabbed to death in Freeport. The victim, identified as Kevin Harvey, 28, was involved in a fight with four men at Coral Gardens. He died in hospital the next day.
Four men have been arrested and charged with Harvey’s murder.
On Monday, January 19, another man was shot in Grand Bahama. Police were called to investigate gunshots in the Bass Lane area. When they arrived, they found the lifeless body of a man on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police yesterday were also investigating two other murders.
The first is the suspected killing of an Exuma mother of three who was found dead in her home early yesterday morning.
Just before 7pm last night, police also reported that they were called to the scene of a fatal shooting in Fox Hill. According to reports, a man was shot while in the area of Blueberry Hill Road, off Fox Hill Road.
Investigations continue.

SURREAL is all I can say! Where do these people find the time? Have no appreciation for their lives and the lives of others. So disheartening to hear such stories going on around the country.

Ah Lord, probably trying to defend his daughter....sad sad sad, a father protects, especially his girls. He never loses that instinct, even when he gets older and weaker
