50 years

EDITOR, The Tribune.

TODAY marks the 50th anniversary of my call to the Bahamas Bar, which at that time I heralded as ancient and Honourable and which I expressed a great pleasure and pride in joining.

Unfortunately the Bar of today is barely recognisable as the one I joined that happy Saturday morning.

Standards have fallen to the extent that the public is no longer impressed when a person is described as a member of the Bar.

Proper etiquette and ethics are things of the past.

The proper regard is not given to one of the highest honours of the profession.

However, on reflection the Bar is only a microcosm of the entire society where we have cheapened everything.

Honesty and integrity are considered old school and if you have money no one cares where you got it.

So, on this day I do not celebrate, but I cry for my beloved country which is going to hell in a basket at an alarming rate of speed.

Wow! What a statement. I feel your pain and frustration Jeanne. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that there are too few in Government that care. I think that the most important item on Government's agenda should be to pass a Freedom of Information Act. This Act would hopefully help to rid our country of corruption. Only then can we start to heal and get this nation moving in a better direction.

The truth! The Bahamas of today is nothing to be proud of and if nothing changes will only get worse. Seems the only ones happy are the political elite and their crony's. I am not advocating it but if the supposed leaders do not get their act together and LISTEN to The People there will be major problems in The Bahamas. Freedom of Information had better happen sooner than later. Our supposed leaders have raked us over the coals for 40 years AT WILL, now it is the will of the people that they (the political elite) be HELD ACCOUNTABLE. STOP RIPPING US OFF!
