A SUSPECTED vagrant was found naked and beaten to death yesterday afternoon hours after police discovered the lifeless body of another man with a gunshot wound in his chest off Fire Trail Road.
These latest killings take the country’s murder count to 67 for the year, according to The Tribune’s records.
The first homicide happened shortly after 5am on Monday off Allen Close.
Officer-in-charge of the Central Detective Unit (CDU), Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle said police believe the victim was shot during a robbery in front of his residence. He has been identified as 49-year-old Keith Davis.
Chief Supt Rolle said the victim, who was found with his shotgun nearby, was able to discharge several shots at the assailant.
However, police are uncertain if the suspect was shot.
“A relative of the 49-year-old male went to his residence to pay him a visit. Upon entering the yard, he noticed his relative lying on the lawn with his shotgun a short distance away. He then contacted the police and EMS responded and upon examination pronounced him dead,” Chief Supt Rolle said.
“We noticed that he was suffering from gunshot injuries to the left chest and there was some signs of struggle in the yard and we believe that the victim’s silver Nissan Teana is missing and we still not have located that. We are trying to get a number on the vehicle so we can have persons be on the look out. We believe the murder happened around 5am so we are also asking for anyone who may have been in that area around that time and may have seen something suspicious to contact us, to reach out to us.”
The second victim was discovered naked in an abandoned building sometime after 1pm off East Street South.
Chief Supt Rolle said police believe the victim is a vagrant who “frequented the area.”
Police suspect the man was dead for about two days before he was found.
“A worker who was hired to do repairs on the Bahamas Public Service Union building went to the rear building to do an inspection. As he stood at the window, he observed the body of a black male lying on a box spring on the floor in the western room. He called the police and officers pronounced him dead,” Chief Supt Rolle said.
“This individual has bruising about the body, which appears as though whomever attacked him may have beaten him and left him there for dead. His clothing was all removed, we found his pants and underwear and shirt in a nearby room. We believe he is a man who frequents the area with no fixed address.”
Anyone with information on any of these homicides is asked to contact police at 911 or 999, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
Investigations continue.
