EDITOR, The Tribune.
I read with great interest the story in the other daily this past Saturday regarding the FNM Yamacraw nomination and wondered whether a sense of entitlement is involved.
I came to that question because first of all, as far as I am aware, the party never advertises or publicises a candidate recommendation of a Branch to the party, to the media. That is unheard of in the FNM and for that matter even in the PLP.
Anyway, it appears that Dion Foulkes believes that he is entitled to the Yamacraw nomination and one could only arrive at that conclusion because, as far as I am aware, no candidate for the FNM has run three times consecutively, in three general elections, in three winnable seats, lost all three, then sought a 4th nomination, much less obtained one from the party.
Not only did he lose in Yamacraw, it was a remarkable loss because all of the DNA votes, if he got them, would not have given him the victory, that is no joke. And, clearly the party intends to win the seat. So, the only thing one could reasonably conclude is that he has a sense of entitlement to a nomination in the FNM.
