Davis 'ready' for PM job

DEPUTY Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis emerged yesterday as yet another hopeful successor to PLP leader, Prime Minister Perry Christie.

Mr Davis declared he was “ready for the job” if there was a vacancy; however, he noted that Mr Christie has not given any indication on whether he intended to step down as leader at the party’s convention later this year.

While he was reluctant to speak further on the matter, when asked what he would bring to the post of PLP leader and possibly prime minister, he replied: “Me.”

“My plans are dependent on what the prime minister does,” Mr Davis, minister of works, added. “It depends on what he does. If there is a vacancy, I’ll be there.”

“I don’t want to discuss that now because the vacancy is not there, and when the vacancy is there then I will talk about those things.”

While in opposition, Mr Christie indicated that he would consider stepping down as party leader mid-term and name a successor. However, he later said he intended to serve a full term if elected as prime minister in 2012.

In January, Mr Christie said it would take a “compelling, tangible” reason for him to lead the PLP into the next general election, revealing that he told his family during the lead-up to the last general election that the 2012 campaign would be his last.

“I told my family at the start of the campaign in 2012, this was the final campaign for me,” Mr Christie said on a ZNS TV broadcast of the show, State of Affairs, in January.

“I do know that people like Charles Carter would come to me and say ‘Stop from talking about you going; people will see you as a lame duck, say nothing about it.’ So I just stopped talking about it and as I stopped talking about it, then everybody became strident, ‘Oh he’s staying on, oh he’s doing that.”

“But something has to happen tangibly, politically, for there to be an understanding that I’m going to remain in public life,” he added. “I choose to focus on the fact that I have the opportunity to be a defining prime minister in this term, that I’ve had 40 consecutive years in public life, by the time I go to election I may have reached the stage almost of Sir Lynden Pindling, meaning that only Sir Roland Symonette is ahead of me. Now I have to be crazy if I were to be thinking of Sir Roland Symonette.”

Mr Davis entered Parliament as the member of Parliament for Cat Island in the January 1992 by-election, and was elected as the representative for Cat Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador in the 1992, 2002, 2007, and 2012 general elections.

He was elected as PLP deputy leader in 2009 at the party’s 51st National Party Convention.

On Sunday, Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe revealed he has interest in leading the PLP and if he had the chance to become prime minister he would take it.

The PLP’s next convention is set for the last week in October, according to party Chairman Bradley Roberts. All positions will be open for contest at that time.

Davis is not ready for the job of DPM let alone PM. What has Davis done over the past 3 years that demonstrates that he is capable of more responsibility? Almost everything within the portfolio of the Ministry of Works is mired in controversy. The list is exhaustive and is well documented. Let me remind everyone that Davis has questioned the veracity of the Department of Statistics report on Unemployment and has ordered an independent report on Urban Renewal 2.O Small Homes Repair to "discredit" the review of the Auditor General. It seems like Mr. Davis dismisses anything that he does not agree with, and his reasoning is nonsensical and asinine. Davis would be a dangerous man as PM and we would be the laughing stock of the international community.

This guy not only did he not share he made brownies with the entire stash and consumed them all, this is perhaps what has contributed to his delusional state at this time. Cannot think off another logical reason why he would think he had even a slim chance of becoming PM. after what has taken place in this country under their leadership.

There are a few Jamaican hookers that used to ply their business over the Daily Grind (I thought that the name for a coffee shop was hilarious, since the upper floors were hooker squatters). But I digress, I heard some interesting stories about the sexual peccadilloes of a certain booger-infested DPM, as well as an ex-Central Bank governor.

I certainly hope that the day comes when people with a sordid past cannot run for public office. We haven't reached that stage yet. All of our politicians are rejects that even the sewerage plant wouldn't process. Yet with boughten votes, they call themselves honourable.
