A 15-year-old boy was arrested after he was caught with a loaded handgun and several rounds of ammunition that police suspect he was attempting to carry into the Thomas A Robinson Stadium during the National High School Track and Field competition on Friday.
According to officer-in-charge of the Central Detective Unit, Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle, the teen was thrown out of the stadium around 10am on Friday after security discovered he had a knife on him. They confiscated the weapon.
“After he was thrown out, around 11am, officers on patrol in the area saw the teen acting suspiciously,” Chief Supt Rolle said.
“They searched the suspect and found a handgun along with seven rounds of ammunition in his possession. He was taken into custody. We believe he was attempting to go back to the stadium, but we can never be too sure. We are just thankful he was caught in time.”
Investigations continue.
